Risk assessments

Risk assessments

From January 2021, leaders MUST risk assess all aspects of the weekly programme being delivered.  Adventurous activities as listed in POR (especially those requiring a permit) continue to need a risk assessment as before.

For regular programme items (such as openings, closings, games etc) this can be done at a practical level - i.e. one risk assessment can cover a variety of games provided they are relatively similar and we do not require to submit separate risk assessments for every individual game we play!

It is the responsibility of each Group Scout Leader (or the DESC for Explorers) to ensure that leaders are creating, following and updating these meeting risk assessments as necessary.  These do not need approval from the District.

Conversely, any programme item which is listed in POR as an adventurous activity DOES require District-level approval.  This is especially true of any activity where a permit is required.

Generic templates for common activities are shared below.  You are welcome to use them as a starting point but they MUST be adjusted for your individual circumstances!!!
